Philosophy is a subject that resists any simple definition; however, it is as relevant as ever in today’s society of disinformation. It is the foundations of critical thinking, intellectually exciting and challenging. At KEGS we strive to grapple with some of life’s biggest questions such as: what does it mean to live a meaningful life? Do our senses accurately describe reality? Is the mind and body distinct?
Studying Philosophy will help you to be able to pay close attention to detail and understand complex problems. You will think in the abstract and construct sound arguments. You will consider social and ethical issues in a structured way. You will use these skills to be logical, influence ideas and decisions. You’ll listen to external speakers both in school and outside at different study days, and in your second year of study we visit Trinity Hall Cambridge for our annual Philosophy Conference.
Sixth Form philosophers Scarlett, Alex, Maddie and Thomas introduce you to A-level Philosophy at KEGS in the short film below.
