King Edward VI Grammar School Chelmsford

Priority Admissions Area

KEGS has a priority area, for Year 7 admissions, of 12.5 miles from the school.  For entry into the school in Year 7 from September 2027 onwards, the first 120 places will be offered to the highest scoring boys, who permanently and continuously live within this area from 10 October of Year 6 onwards.

The remaining places will be offered to the highest scoring boys, regardless of where they live.  Any applicant moving to the priority area after 10 October of Year 6 will not be considered a ‘priority area’ applicant.

All straight line distances are calculated electronically by the Local Authority using a Geographical Information System (GIS) which measures and calculates home to school distances using data provided by Ordnance Survey.  The data is used to plot the co-ordinates of each individual property and school and provides the address points between which straight line distance is measured.
