King Edward VI Grammar School Chelmsford

Our International Links

KEGS takes its mission to help its students to develop as ‘principled global citizens’ very seriously, and we value both the breadth of our curriculum and the range of international activities which our students undertake both within and beyond the classroom. All of our students learn one foreign language (French or German) to GCSE level, taking the exam at the end of Year 9, with the opportunity to add a second language (French, German, Russian or Mandarin) from the start of Year 9.

Our exchange partnership with Wirtemberg Gymnasium in Stuttgart dates back more than 60 years. We also have active partnerships with Lycee Notre Dame de Bellegarde in Neuville-sur-Saône near Lyon and Mogonjet School in Kenya.

KEGS students can participate in an array of internationally oriented extra-curricular activities during their school career. These range from language exchange programmes, residential trips to Alsace and battlefield sites in Northern Europe and sport and music tours abroad, to senior students having the opportunity to undertake international trips as part of their A level courses, visit the Mogonjet School in Kenya in Year 12, or participate in the World Challenge expedition.
