King Edward VI Grammar School Chelmsford

Ofsted Report

We are delighted to share the outcome of our most recent Ofsted inspection, which recognised KEGS as Exceptional in both Achievement and Post-16 Provision, with all other areas judged to meet the Strong Standard.

Under Ofsted’s new inspection framework, Exceptional is reserved for provision that is considered to be among the highest standards nationally, while Strong recognises schools operating above the expected standard. The report highlights the remarkable progress made by students throughout their time at KEGS, the exceptionally rich sixth-form experience on offer, and the vibrant learning environment in which students thrive.

Inspectors noted that pupils, including the most vulnerable, “make remarkable progress in their learning and achieve consistently high standards” and praised the school’s commitment to ensuring that students from all backgrounds flourish and achieve their aspirations.

The report also recognises the extensive opportunities available beyond the classroom, the strength of pastoral care, the quality of teaching, and the culture of respect, kindness and ambition that characterises life at KEGS.

We are grateful to our students, staff, parents, governors and trustees for their contribution to this achievement and invite you to read the full report below.
