The McCallum-Rich Theatre and the Bil and Diana McCallum Fund

The McCallum-Rich Theatre was opened in September 2019 in one of the last stages of the improvements linked to the Nigel Fanshawe Sports Hall.  The relocation of PE enabled the previous gym to be converted to a theatre, named in honour of John B. ‘Bil’ McCallum, Head of English and teacher at KEGS from 1966 to 1998 who inspired generations of pupils to appreciate and treasure literature, above all Shakespeare’s plays, and also in honour of his wife Diana, née Rich, who enabled his career.  Two of their four children were KEGS silver medallists and one of them, Douglas S. McCallum, a British internet pioneer, gratefully endowed the theatre in fond tribute to his parents.  The generosity of other notable benefactors to the project is also acknowledged within the McCallum-Rich Theatre.

In 2021, Douglas McCallum also endowed a trust fund, to be administered by the KEGS Foundation, the income from which is to be used to maintain the McCallum-Rich Theatre and any remaining income from which may be used to support the performing and visual arts at KEGS and to help pupils in financial need.

The school is extremely grateful to all those friends, parents and alumni of the school who have enabled KEGS to have the facilities that it now has.  Anybody interested in exploring future possibilities or ways to assist the school should contact the Headteacher in the first instance.
