Art & Design

‘It doesn’t matter if you are going to study History, Geography or Science, you still need to be creative because the people who are the outliers in those fields are the most creative’.

This was said by Cornelia Parker, one of our most successful and renowned contemporary artists. Our A Level Art students recognise the value of this and count amongst themselves aspiring medics, philosophers, architects, artists, diplomats and engineers. Our A Level Art course will encourage self- expression, the development of skills and creativity. It will build on self-confidence and foster independent working through a foundation composed of a series of workshops. These will include Life Drawing, printmaking, 3D construction and relief. The nurture of the individual, the building of skills, and with-it self-expression and the embracing of serendipity will help the making of highly personal and meaningful art. You will visit galleries including commercial as well as traditional collections beginning with the Tate Modern in Year 12 as well as attend live illustrated talks by artists, photographers and designers. Each year we have several students who go on to study Architecture, Animation, Film and Directing or get a place on a foundation course of Art & Design. Destinations include the Royal School of Drawing, Central School of St Martins, Cambridge University, UCL and Bath University.

In our short film below, Ms Wiltshire and sixth form Art students Caleb, George, Emily and Emily introduce you to the world of A-level Art.
