We were delighted with the wonderful level of success achieved by KEGS students in public exams in summer 2022, and congratulate all those involved, particularly after the challenges which students in these cohorts have faced. Like other students across the country, students have worked extremely hard in difficult circumstances and we recognise that dedication and celebrate their successes. In a year of transition between pre-Covid and Pandemic grade boundaries, some caution is needed when interpreting results, but nevertheless we are delighted with the extremely strong level of attainment of pupils.
At A level this year, over 44% of KEGS students have received the very top A* grade, nearly 78% were at A* or A grade and over 93% were at A*-B. These figures are considerably up on any of the figures in the three pre-Covid years of 2017, 2018, 2019
Out of 180 students, 35 have achieved the remarkable feat of 4 or more A* grades in their A levels and 59 have achieved 3 or more A* grades. Three quarters of the Year 13 cohort have achieved at least 3 A grades or better at A level. We would however add that every A level result represents a lot of hard work by an individual, and we congratulate everyone on their resilience and on their results and their exceptional level of success which has enabled them to move on to further study, training or employment. As in previous years, a large number of our students are moving on to courses at top universities – and 25 students in the year group achieved the grades needed for their offer at Oxford or Cambridge. However, what matters most is that young people have the opportunities to commence the next stage of their lives, following their personal interests or aims, after the challenges which the last few years have presented.
The good news continues at GCSE where over half of the results were the very top grade 9 and over 93% were graded at 7,8 or 9 (this figure rises to nearly 94% if early entries from the last two Summers are also included). These figures are comfortably up on pre-pandemic results.
From a cohort of 150 students at KEGS, 15 achieved a clean sweep of grade 9 in all their GCSEs this Summer, but we congratulate all students and recognise the dedication that has gone into every result and wish all students well as they move on to the next stage in their education.
We also congratulate students who took GCSEs early this summer. Students in Year 9 took either French or German GCSE, with an amazing 69% of results being given the very top grade 9. Students in Year 10 will typically have taken one or two public exams, with an even higher 74% of results in the full GCSEs taken being given a grade 9 and excellent results in the RE short course exam.
