THE LAUNCH
On Tuesday 9th January 2007, KEGS announced the launch of its ambitious campaign to raise £2million to build the new Sixth Form Centre. An impressive £750,000 had been raised by the launch, principally from a small number of highly motivated parents, business friends, former pupils and the school leadership. During the next 7 months, the ‘Building a Brighter Future’ Campaign sought to raise a further £750,000 to enable building works to commence in May 2008. (The total target was £1.5million capital and a legacies programme will also be run alongside it to ensure sustainable funding for the project and raise an additional £500,000.)
This was hugley successful, one of the largest fundraising initiatives run by a state school, where £2million was raised from individual donations.
Peter Webb, Campaign Chairman and parent, said: “I am delighted to have been asked to support this important project that promises to further improve the standards of academic achievement at KEGS. The new sixth form centre will serve as a lifelong reminder of what can be achieved through a successful partnership between pupils, past and present, parents, local businesses and friends of the school.
