SPORTS
As you'd expect from a prestigious School, we take our sports very seriously. From expert teaching and coaching through to our excellent facilities, there is something for everyone, a sport for all philosophy with a chance for the elite to shine and reach their full potential.
At Curriculum level all students receive an hour and a half games lesson a week, with Lower School pupils having an extra hour physical education lesson a week. The successful introduction of GSCE PE has now been developed further, with AS and A2 PE appearing on this year’s timetable for the first time.
Yet none of this does justice to the sheer breadth of our Extra Curricular activities. In the traditional games of cricket, rugby, tennis, football and athletics our teams regularly achieve district and county success. We also have many individuals going on to gain honours at both county and national level.
The Physical Education Department runs a healthy fixture programme with schools throughout the county which take place at the weekends and mid week. In additional to the traditional sports we have wide range of activities such as canoeing, basketball, golf, table tennis, climbing and even bowling! These activities also boast many champions.
We also offer the opportunity for students to broaden their theoretical knowledge of their chosen specialist sport through the CLSA Award Scheme and by offering regular coaching and refereeing courses on site and locally.
The School’s main playing fields are located off site at the Bedford Fields. This large area of green belt contains 5 Rugby pitches, 4 Football pitches, 4 Cricket squares, an Athletics track and 2 Hockey pitches. These excellent facilities, and the on site new gym, have recently been complimented by the development of a specialist fitness suite and P.E. classroom.
Sport at its best demands skill, team work, strength, courage and commitment. We certainly enjoy our frequent successes yet we also pay tribute to the creativity, dedication and co-operative work of all our teams – whatever the outcome.
