EDUCATION MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE (EMA)

General Information about EMA

What is EMA?

The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is a weekly payment up to £30, paid directly to students who stay on in further education after they reach the statutory leaving age.  Students may also receive bonuses if they remain on their course and make good progress with their learning.  Bonuses will be payable in January and July.

Who will be entitled to EMA?

Entitlement to EMA depends on an assessment of household income.  Any student who is thinking of staying in further education and who lives in a household in England with an annual income of £30,810 or less should apply for EMA.

How do students apply?

Students can obtain an application pack from the school’s EMA Co-ordinator (Mrs Katie Weiner) or contacting the EMA Helpline on 0800 121 898 or by visiting their website www.direct.gov.uk/ema.

If you have any queries regarding EMA please contact either the Head of Sixth Form (Mr Robin Newman) or the EMA Co-ordinator (Mrs Katie Weiner)
